Global Medical Response (GMR) and Hunter Ambulance Group leaders announced today that they have signed an agreement for GMR to acquire the assets of Hunter Ambulance Group in a deal to be finalized later this summer.

Hunter is one of the largest private ambulance providers in the New York City metro area, serving all five boroughs, Nassau and Suffolk Counties and several of the largest hospital systems in the area. All-Transit, an operating entity of Hunter, provides staff and resources to the New York City Transit Authority’s Access-A-Ride paratransit transportation program. This program provides transportation for mobility impaired individuals across New York City.

Dan Leibowitz, president of Hunter Ambulance Group, said the Hunter team will continue to provide care to their client base as they grow the Hunter brand and service lines throughout downstate New York. A family-owned business, Hunter was founded in 1982 and transported approximately 86,000 patients and provided 315,000 non-medical vehicle service hours in the New York City area last year.

“In partnering with Global Medical Response, we will become stronger and better suited to servicing our health system partners and the people of downstate New York,” Leibowitz said. “I am thrilled that the Hunter brand will continue to provide professional EMS care while expanding our already proven patient care programs through the depth of GMR’s diversified EMS organization.”

Randy Owen, CEO for Global Medical Response, said the acquisition will ensure that Hunter’s long tradition of care in the area will continue. “GMR is pleased to begin providing care in the New York market with such a strong team at Hunter. We are proud to have Dan and his leaders as members of the GMR leadership team and welcome the 550 Hunter team members to our GMR family.” He added that the company will continue its strong market presence under the Hunter brand.
