The new first responders are graduates of AMR’s Earn While You Learn (EWYL) program.
This week officials from American Medical Response (AMR) Seattle gathered to celebrate the graduation of 21 new EMTs from its award-winning Earn While You Learn academy. The Earn While You Learn program hires future EMS professionals as full-time employees while they complete the training and certification courses to become Emergency Medical Technicians.

AMR launched the award-winning EWYL program as a way to ease the financial transition for those wanting to become EMS professionals. The innovative program allows for paid on-the-job training while taking the necessary certification courses to become EMTs. Following successful completion of the program, the participants are promoted with a commensurate pay increase. Since launching the EWYL program in 2018, AMR has graduated over 1,000 EMS professionals nationwide.

“The team at AMR Seattle is proud to welcome these 21 new EMTs to our operation,” said KC McCoy, operations manager for AMR Seattle. “They have demonstrated great commitment in their training and are now on the pathway to professional success. We are looking forward to the great impact they will each have on our community.”

Earn While You Learn received a national honor from the American Ambulance Association in the best Employee Programs Category. Similar programs have also been launched in Alabama, Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Arizona, Nevada and Tennessee.
