The air medical provider partners with Imperial County hospital system in California to provide blood to trauma patients.

When it comes to helicopter air ambulance services, quality patient care and safety are top priorities. The three REACH Air Medical Services (REACH) bases located in Imperial County recently made strides in both areas. The bases have partnered with an Imperial County hospital system to start carrying blood products onboard its aircraft.

Brent Lopez, Program Director for REACH, said packed red blood cells are now available to the medical crews for patients who may suffer from severe blood loss and require aggressive fluid resuscitation under their care.

“Early administration of blood products to the critically ill or injured patient provides important stabilization as we transport them to a higher level of care,” he said.

Lopez also said he is grateful for the local partnerships REACH has formed in order to provide access to the blood products.

“REACH has made a great investment in order to provide blood products to our patients,” he said. “This is one more example of REACH’s dedication to providing the highest level of care to our patients and the communities of Imperial County.”

REACH operates three air medical bases in Imperial County – Brawley, Salton City and Imperial.
