AMR Launches Water Safey EMS Boat Program

Ground Medical Transportation Provider to Deploy EMS Boat & Teams to Lake Berryessa during Peak Use Days
In response to six drownings and three near-fatal drownings in 2020 on Napa County’s popular Lake Berryessa, Napa County ambulance service provider, American Medical Response (AMR), has launched a new water safety EMS boat program. The program, operating in conjunction with the Napa County Sherriff’s Department and the Napa Fire Department, will deploy a medically equipped Thunder Jet boat, to Lake Berryessa during holiday weekends and high-traffic days.
“AMR Napa is excited to partner with the Napa County Fire Department and Napa Sheriff's Department to greatly enhance water safety and EMS response at Lake Berryessa,” said JohnRey Hassan, Regional Director for AMR parent company, Global Medical Response. “Having paramedics deployed on a dedicated EMS response boat will enable us to get livesaving care to those in need faster than before and directly to the scene of an incident on the water. This capability is further bolstered by the addition of the Napa REACH 3 helicopter on summer weekends."
The EMS boat, staffed by a highly trained and experienced crew of AMR EMTs and Paramedics, is medically equipped to provide Advanced Life Support services to swimmers and beachgoers in distress. Capable of speeds up to 50 miles per hour, the boat will help to expedite emergency medical responses to the 165 miles of shoreline at Lake Berryessa.
In addition to the new watercraft, AMR parent company Global Medical Response will now reposition its air medical aircraft, REACH 3, from the Napa County airport to the Lake during high-traffic periods to further expedite medical transport for local patients in need.
The EMS boat program is just one of several additional response services provided by AMR Napa. The ambulance service provider also provides fire-line medical care via its Wildland Fire EMS Team and pre-hospital care for SWAT team deployments via the Tactical Paramedic program.
