As Rural Healthcare Access Shrinks, AMR Brings Integrated Emergency Response Network to Pauls Valley, OK

AMR launches new 911 ambulance service featuring the community's first quick response vehicle and network of ground resources.
One in four rural hospitals in Oklahoma is at immediate risk of closing, a trend that is forcing more residents to travel farther from home for emergency medical care. In Garvin County, the closure of Valley Community Hospital left tens of thousands of residents without local hospital services, requiring ambulances to transport patients to facilities outside the area, tying up local ambulance resources for extended periods.
To help address those challenges, American Medical Response (AMR) today began service as the contracted 911 ambulance provider for Pauls Valley, launching an enhanced emergency response system that includes the community's first emergency quick response vehicle (QRV). A QRV is a non-transport emergency vehicle staffed by a highly trained paramedic who can arrive quickly and begin advanced lifesaving care before an ambulance reaches the scene. Because it remains available in the community while ambulances are taking patients to distant hospitals, a QRV helps maintain emergency coverage for the next 911 call.
"Rural communities need more than an ambulance. They need a system that keeps advanced emergency care available even when patients must be transported farther from home," said Rick Bigger, operations director for AMR. "The quick response vehicle gives Pauls Valley another layer of protection, ensuring a highly trained critical care paramedic can begin lifesaving treatment while maintaining emergency coverage for the community."
Starting today, AMR will provide 24/7 emergency care throughout Pauls Valley with two advanced life support ambulances staffed by highly trained paramedics and EMTs capable of delivering lifesaving treatment for critical emergencies, including stroke, heart attack and severe trauma.

"When someone in Pauls Valley calls 911, there's a good chance the paramedic or EMT responding is also a neighbor, a friend or a familiar face in the community. As part of Global Medical Response, the nation's largest provider of ground and air emergency medical services, AMR is backed by a deep bench of emergency resources, including additional ground ambulances from across Oklahoma and nearby Air Evac Lifeteam helicopters that can rapidly transport critically ill or injured patients to specialized care when every minute matters.
