GMR Mobilizes First Responders, Ambulances, Paratransit Assets and Air Medical Aircrafts as Idalia Gains Strength

As part of American Medical Response's FEMA contract, GMR is deploying ground, air and medical transportation assets to help Florida communities ahead of Idalia’s landfall.
Global Medical Response (GMR) is deploying hundreds of first responders, ambulances, paratransit vehicles and air medical helicopters as Hurricane Idalia continues to gain strength in the Gulf of Mexico. This mobilization is in response to the federal government's request to American Medical Response (AMR) for emergency medical services (EMS) aid as part of its contract with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“We have been monitoring the progress and development of this storm, and all forecasts are predicting that it will develop into a category three hurricane before making landfall,” said Nick Loporcaro, chief executive officer for AMR parent company, Global Medical Response. “GMR teams and partnering EMS agencies from across the country are mobilizing in preparation for this storm to make landfall in Florida early Wednesday morning.”

Upon arrival in Florida, GMR teams will provide services as directed by the state. They will be working under the guidance of FEMA, state and local EMS agencies. All deployed teams are continuously monitored and dispatched via GMR’s National Command Center (NATCOM), located in Lewisville.

“Our teams will remain in Florida and activated for as long as the state and FEMA request our assistance,” said Ted Van Horne, chief operating officer for Global Medical Response.” We are proud to once again be able to assist the communities of Florida.”

As the nation's largest provider of EMS and FEMA's prime emergency medical service response provider, AMR has a national agreement with FEMA to provide ground ambulance, air ambulance, paratransit services and non-ambulance EMS personnel to supplement the local, federal and National Guard response to a disaster, an act of terrorism or any other public health emergency.
