Air Evac Lifeteam in London, KY is proud to announce the arrival of a new replacement EC 135 P2+ to return to service in Eastern Kentucky beginning today.
Air Evac Lifeteam (AEL), a division of Global Medical Response (GMR), is proud to announce the arrival of a new replacement EC 135 P2+ medically configured rotor-wing aircraft, which officially allowed its team based at the London-Corbin Airport to return to service in Eastern Kentucky beginning today. The aircraft, designed for versatility and safety, is equipped to handle the most critical medical conditions and allows for Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flights. IFR capabilities allow pilots to safely operate the aircraft in low visibility conditions.
Affectionally nicknamed “Dorothy” by AEL’s dedicated crews, the new aircraft is fully in service, ready to serve the communities of London and Laurel Counties, as well as the surrounding areas.
“This is a milestone day for our base. While no one could have imagined the damage that would occur last month, this new aircraft represents our community’s resilience and dedication to rebuilding what was lost,” says Letch Day, program manager for AEL.
The AEL 179 crews remain stationed at London-Corbin Airport, utilizing a GMR Emergency Support Unit (ESU) fully equipped with computers, flight management equipment and additional operational resources as their base office. Flight crew members will remain in temporary quarters near base, with permanent quarters expected to be finished by the end of August.
“The AEL 179 team has not missed a beat, immediately utilizing our extensive network of resources from nearby bases,” adds Day. “However, everyone is excited to get back to serving patients with our own aircraft back in service.”
AEL 179 is a part of AirMedCare Network. AirMedCare Network is the largest air ambulance membership network in the U.S., featuring providers like Air Evac Lifeteam.
