Scott McMichael
Program Director
Scott McMichael began his career as an emergency medical service (EMS) professional 29 years ago, though his innate sense of duty and commitment to serving his community were evident long before.
Growing up among a family of civil servants, first responders and military servicemen, Scott was inspired to help people from a young age. In 1997, he finished school and joined the EMS workforce. Nine years later, he became a paramedic with American Medical Response (AMR) San Joaquin County where he discovered his full potential.
Working for AMR transformed Scott. Absorbing as much information as possible, he developed a newfound desire to share everything he learned with others, which ignited his interest in teaching roles.
The knowledge he grew to possess, backed by real-world experience, enabled Scott to become an adjunct instructor for AMR’s National College of Technical Instruction (NCTI) in Roseville, California. He later served as a paramedic lead instructor before ultimately stepping into the role of program director.
Today, Scott fosters the next generation of allied health professionals by teaching advanced emergency medical care solutions for critical and emergent patients as well as the complex skills required to succeed at patient care and transportation services; including how to perform interventions using equipment typically found on both basic- and advanced-level ambulances.
AMR Director of Education Services Margaret Franklin says, “Scott just passed his 20-year milestone and has been directly involved in or has overseen the training of more than 900 graduating emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics, making a profound impact in adding quality healthcare providers to the workforce.”
