Guardian Flight Alaska Now Serving Fort Yukon

Fixed Wing Air Medical Operation to Serve Arctic Circle and Surrounding Regions for Summer Months
Guardian Flight Alaska, a Global Medical Response (GMR) company, has opened a fixed-wing air medical base located in Fort Yukon for the summer months. The base, operating a Beechcraft King Air B200 airplane, will serve the villages of Fort Yukon, Beaver, Circle, Eagle, Arctic Village, Stevens Village and the surrounding regions for the next 90 days.
“Guardian Flight Alaska is incredibly proud to increase access to emergent air medical transport and medical care for the village of Fort Yukon and the surrounding areas during peak activity months,” said Jared Sherman, Vice President of Operations for Global Medical Response. “We recognize that with warmer weather, villages like Fort Yukon see an increase in activity and with that comes an increased risk of injury and need for emergent air medical transport.” Sherman added that the opening of the Fort Yukon base is a great addition to the company’s operations throughout the state and will not reduce service in other communities.
The Guardian Flight Fort Yukon base will operate 24/7 with a highly trained and experienced crew consisting of a pilot and critical care transport. The medically equipped King Air B200 airplane has a range of more than 920 nautical miles and a top speed of 290 knots. Configured for vital life-saving and emergency transportation, Guardian Flight’s enhanced cabin can carry a pilot, two patients, nurse and paramedic, life-saving medical equipment and a family member when appropriate.
“Providing faster response times and developing deeper relationships with the village communities along the Yukon River has been a part of our long term vision for several years,” said Delvinee Dillingham, Program Director for Guardian Flight Alaska. “We are very excited about the chance to be a healthcare solution for Fort Yukon and surrounding areas; more than that, we are genuinely looking forward to getting to know the people.”
The Fort Yukon base joins 11 fixed-wing medically equipped aircraft that provide life- and limb-saving flights across Alaska. Bombardier Learjet 45s fly from Guardian Flight bases in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, and Ketchikan. Dead Horse, Kotzebue, Fairbanks, and Juneau operate a Beechcraft King Air B200 and Anchorage flies two B200s. A Cessna Caravan is based in Dillingham and an Airbus H-125 helicopter operates on the Kenai Peninsula.
